The town of Eastchester is situated 20 miles north of New York City, and includes the villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe. Eastchester is known for its rich history, including recognition as the “Recognized as the “marble capital of the world” and the “cradle of American golf,” Eastchester is steeped in history.
Once a rural farming community, the population soared with the arrival of the railroad, and the areas developed into a suburban haven. Park facilities include baseball and softball fields, soccer and open play fields, Pony/Colt and Little League fields, playgrounds, climbing apparatus, tennis and paddle tennis courts, basketball and horseshoe courts, picnic area with tables, benches, a barbecue grill and restrooms. Some parks have rock gardens, sitting areas, a gazebo and summer concerts. The Town's facilities are supplemented by local school facilities.
At 116 acres, Lake Isle Park boasts an 18-hole golf course, five outdoor swimming pools and six Har-Tru tennis courts. Lake Isle is also one of the locations of the Senior Center, which offers a variety of programs to the senior residents in the community.
If a private golf club is more attractive, Eastchester is home to the Leewood Golf Club. The 18-hole course features 6,175 yards of golf from the longest tees. Designed by Devereaux Emmet, the Leewood course opened in 1922. Tennis, swimming and dining facilities are also available.
The Eastchester Union Free School District consists of Waverly, an early childhood center for kindergarten, Greenvale and Anne Hutchinson Elementary Schools, a middle school for students in grades 6-8, and the Eastchester High School. Known for its small classes, the district stresses academic achievement and personal growth. Courses challenge students to meet their potential while focusing on their individual needs, helping each to become a life-long learner. Eastchester High School has been nationally recognized as a “National High School of Excellence.” The majority of students further their education in 4-year institutions of higher learning. Students are offered numerous accelerated classes, advanced placement and college level courses.
