Crompond is a very small community within the Town of Yorktown. Crompond has a total of 2.5 square miles of land, of which, .4 miles is water. Along with Crompond, the Town of Yorktown has four other hamlet areas - Yorktown Heights, Shrub Oak, Jefferson Valley, and Mohegan Lake.
Crompond is primarily a suburban community with just over 600 homes in the community. Its character is predominantly residential, with a major portion of its work force commuting daily to jobs in New York City, White Plains and other locations in Westchester County.
Crompond is served by the Lakeland Central School Districtin the Northwest corner of Westchester County. The school district includes parts of six towns: Yorktown, Cortlandt, and Somers in Westchester County; Carmel, Philipstown, and Putnam Valley in Putnam County. The district population was 6,323 in October 2009. Lakeland includes five, grade K-5 elementary schools; one, grade 6-8 middle school; and two grade 9-12 high schools as well as the Lakeland Alternative High School.
